“Quantum of Solace” is bagging the top spot in box offices worldwide. It seems that people are really liking Daniel Craig and the new grittier Bond!
The film first broke box office opening day records at the UK making £4.9 million alone that day and bagging a total of £15.5 for the whole debut weekend early this month. Sweden and France also added to the sweet take with a total debut weekend sales of £14.2 million.
In the US alone it raked in $70.4 million during its opening weekend, a record for Bond movies wherein the previous record was held by “Die Another Day” for an opening weekend of $47.7 million.
In Ireland, the film is leaving all the other movies that are showing in the dust even on its 3rd week with a whopping€431,000 on the 3rd weekend and and a total 3-week run of €3,623,000. It looks like its also set to beat 007 records in this country, which is set by “Casino Royale” for bagging a total of €4m.

As the US box office continues to struggle this year, the Australian cinema box office looks like its going to enjoy another year of good revenue. In fact, with the way several key films have done and are currently raking in ticket sales it is likely that this year’s profit will be a record breaker, exceeding the $907.2 million mark set in 2004. Compared with last year’s earnings, this year’s box office takings are so far 2% higher than that of 2007.
For the second time in just 10 days “The Dark Knight” has rewritten box-office record books after crushing “Spider Man 3′s” box-office opening record of $151.1 million by more than $7 million last week, and now being the fastest film ever to clear the $300 million mark. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” previously held the record after reaching the mark in 16 days but “The Dark Knight” did so in just 10 days after grossing $75.6 million on its second weekend.
“The Forbidden Kingdom” sure has runaway with the box office during their opening weekend with an estimated sales of nearly $21 million.
“Vantage Point” topped the weekend box office with an estimated $24 million in ticket sales. It bumped “Jumper” from the number one spot, after earning only $12.7 million on its second week for a total 2-week run of $56.2 million so far (not bad!). A close third was the “Spiderwick Chronicles”, which earned $12.6 million.
According to LA Times, the box office revenue in North America has gone up even if the actual number of tickets sold remained stagnant.
